Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are composed of a huge number of small sensors which are effective for gathering data in a variety of environments. Sensor nodes are usually battery powered so energy aware data transfer is required to maximize the network lifetime. In this paper we have introduced an energy efficient reactive protocol for data aggregation (EERPDA) for homogeneous sensor network which gives priority to Critical information and is also adaptive in nature. Here we propose the concept of the average distance of node from all its neighboring nodes and its distance from the Base Station(BS) for the cluster head selection, it helps in improving network lifetime. Moreover, cluster head (CH) selection also depends on the current energy of the sensor node. The proposed protocol compared with the existing protocols such as LEACH, ELEACH and I-LEACH using MATLAB simulation tool which reflects that the proposed protocol significantly improves the network lifetime and throughput in practical operational environments.
