This paper presents, a novel miniaturized planar antenna for Ultra-wideband (UWB) Communication. The proposed antenna has novel semi-elliptical shape with sine-curve based parasitic structures and defected ground plane. The design not only covers the unlicensed (3.1-10.6 GHz) UWB band but also provides impedance match over licensed UWB band (10.6 GHz above). The proposed antenna achieves good radiation characteristics over desired band while maintaining over 3-4 dBi gain and compactness. The employed substrate is low profile FR-4 having miniaturized dimensions of 30 mm × 25 mm. The scattering parameters, radiation characteristics surface current distributions and overall better gain make it a potential candidate for UWB applications.
