An Integration Approach of GIS DCOM Application in WorkFlow System Development

As the rapid advancing of Components-Based Programming, its capability of performing interoperations between software modules built from different development platforms can greatly reduce the software development costs. For many GIS application developments, it is important that programmers can benefit from these advancements. Workflow is a kind of very important management system for enterprise government information systems. However, workflow software products are often environment-correlated and often non-opened. Components-Based Programming, such as DCOM and CORBA give a way to embed other software components in workflow. The paper outlines a design approach of a Component-Based GIS, integrated with workflow software in Power corporation information system. The integration approach adopts Microsoft DCOM technology. Application developments on the integrated environment will immediately find the GIS DCOM to be very easy to use, and GIS-embedded workflow gives better user-interface, more functions.
