VAV systems attempt to reduce building energy consumption while maintaining the primary role of air conditioning. A state space model of variable air volume (VAV) air-conditioning system is developed. It is found that the dynamic model is formulated as a MIMO bilinear and coupling system. To obtain good control performance,a novel decoupling control method,direct feedback linear (DFL) is applied for decoupling and linearization of the nonlinear model of VAV air-conditioning system,and a linear multiinput -multi-output model is obtained. DFL control system is designed and simulated based on SIMLINK. Simulation results for a typical plant with two zone show that DFL control system can achieve good performance in celerity,stability and other aspects. Also the potential of keeping comfort and maintaining energy optimal performance is demonstrated by this methodology.
