This paper presented dynamic analysis of metal pushing V-belt Continuously variable transmissions (CVT). A three-dimensional continuous model of V-belt CVT was established,considering the effects of transient dynamic behavior of a belt element and band as it travels from the inlet to the exit of the driven pulley and evaluating the CVT system performance under the influence of slip between band pack and belt element. Results showed that element compressive force increased with torque ratio and decreased with transmission ratio. Band tensile force decreased with time when i<1,while increased when i≥1. The friction force between belt band and element increased with time. The band pack and the belt element differ from each other,which may cause transmission loss in different stage as the belt traverses the pulley wraps. The model gives profound insight into the dynamics of a CVT system,which could be exploited further to design efficient controllers and reduce associated losses.
