In this paper, a broadband UHF - RFID passive tag antenna embedded inside a plastic card is proposed for near-body applications. The human body effects are mitigated by introducing parasitic strips and slots using equivalent circuit analysis. The proposed tag antenna is able to cover US/Asian UHF-RFID band when place 2mm apart from the body and can be read up to 6.5 m. Moreover, the tag can be tuned to cover European UHF-RFID band. The compact, flexible and low-cost structure of proposed tag antenna makes it suitable for tagging garments and other near-body applications like human identification, student attendance system.
