Carbon anodes from coal-tar pitch / petroleum pitch blends

Bench scale carbon anodes were prepared from four different binders (a coal-tar pitch, a petroleum pitch and two coal-tar pitch/petroleum pitch blends) and calcined petroleum coke. Prior to the preparation of the anodes, the composition of the paste was optimized by readjusting the pitch content and granulometry distribution of the filler. This optimization was monitored by means of an elongation test. The carbon anodes were characterized in terms of mechanical/electrical properties and reactivity to air.
