Reduction process is one of the basic processes frequently used in metallurgy. Oftenest used reductants is coal indifferent form. To obtain the highest possible process reduction efficiency the selection of reductant is needed for individualcharacteristics of metallurgical processes. Selection procedure is based on: the analysis of basic physic-chemical properties ofreductant which influence reductant behaviour during reduction process and reduction tests in laboratory scale anddetermination of recovery ratio for each of the metals obtained during the reduction process. Laboratory tests of slagreduction were carried out with the use of breeze cokes and anthracites of different properties as reductants. Researches werecarried on by means of Tamman furnace of 50 g capacity and arc furnace of 3 kg capacity. Obtained products: mineral phaseand metal phase were subjected to analysis to enable complete process balance and reductant effectiveness. Reductantefficiency RE is a factor which determines reductant effectiveness during the process. RE is the percentage share of obtainedmetal phase in relation to stoichiometric amount of metal in the charge.Important they are also volatile products of reductant thermal decomposition so as: PAH and VOCs.
