Low PAH Coal Tar Pitches for S?derberg Anodes

Coal tar pitches of 115℃ of SP were produced by thermal treatment at 380 and 340℃ under gas blowingconditions. These pitches display typical binder properties, being suitable for the manufacture of electrodes for thealuminium industry. They also present lower volatile matter and PAH contents than usual binder pitches and then thepotential of giving rise to reduced PAH emissions in the aluminium production process. The quality of test anodesprepared with these new pitches as binders is monitored by determination of several physical properties.
