miDerma: An Integrated Database and Tool for Analysis of miRNAs associated with Dermatological Disorders

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are considered as very important cellular constituents that control gene expression at the post-transcriptional level and have fascinated much scientific attention. These small non-coding RNAs play important roles by binding to their target genes and are also known to be associated with various diseases. miRNAs play an important role in cellular homeostasis of the skin and any abnormal changes in the expressions of concerned miRNAs can lead to dermatological disorders. From the vast available scientific literature, we can find the genes associated with skin diseases also form some specific databases we can find the miRNAs controlling those genes. Integration of these curated disease, gene and miRNAs relationship data from the literature can be used for generating new, putative discoveries. So, here we are proposing miDerma, an integrated database of miRNAs associated with dermatological disorders based on inferred knowledge form the literature. The database is publicly available at http://miderma.pythonanywhere.com/. The database contains 338 Dermatological disorders associated with 981 genes which are regulated by 2504 MiRNAs. Total 36609 associations with proper references are present. Also, Venn-diagram and network visualization features were added to the web service for conceptual visualization and preliminary analysis of diseases and miRNAs association.
