In the low-rank line of sight(LOS) environment, in order to obtain the best system capacity of multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO) relay system, the location of relay station (RS) should be designed carefully. According to the characteristic of the RS system in low-rank LOS environment, a new genetic algorithm is proposed to design the RS location. Genetic algorithm is a parallel and efficient global optimization algorithm, but it is too sensitive to the mutation and crossover probability, and there is no unified convergence condition for ending which leads to prematurity and slow convergence. In this paper, the fixed mutation and crossover probability is improved, and the simulation results show that the improved genetic algorithm speeds up the convergence rate and avoids the local convergence.
