The general problem of effective functioning of typical medical information and telecommunication system (ITS) was defined. The analysis of the characteristics of medical information transmission technologies in medical ITSs was carried out. The necessity of optimal filtering for different signal types against the background interference was figured out. The analysis of types of biomedical signals, their time-frequency characteristics was accomplished. Some modern methods for adaptive filtering and their applicability in medical ITSs were reviewed. Key performance indicators for rating the adaptive filtering methods were defined.
