In this paper, a surface permanent magnet motor made of the Soft Magnetic Composites (SMC) is analysed using the 3-D finite element method. By comparing with the calculated results for the motor made of the silicon steel sheets, the usefulness of the SMC for the eddy current loss is clarified quantitatively.
