The Importance of the Business Context to System Boundary Definition - A Case Study or Two

摘要

This paper provides two illustrations of recent projects where an appreciation of the true impact of a new and expensive integrated system upon the wider organisation was not considered until well into system design and in one case at prototype delivery. The case studies provide an operational context and support for investment in development of the operational concept prior to system design. Furthermore, the case studies emphasize that a developed operational concept in the form of mission scenarios or use cases provide an invaluable tool for design validation in an agreed operational/user context.
