An improved filter tuning method based on coupling matrix extraction is presented. Using a simple version of the space mapping approach, unavoidable cross-dependencies between detuned couplings and adjacent resonators can be excluded before the tuning process. Without these cross-dependencies, the iterative process of finding the correct tuning state to get a prescribed filter response can be significantly improved. Equations for calculation of the so called compensation matrix are derived and the way of adoption in the standard extraction process is presented. The efficiency of the provided method is shown using a simple but convenient example.
