摘要

Magnetic resonance-guided high intensity focused ultrasound (MR-HIFU) is a relatively new treatment modality in Malaysia. This minimally invasive technique of tissue heating and ablation has been a promising tool for treatment of various pathological diseases, particularly uterine fibroid. An MR-HIFU system (Philips Sonalleve MR-HIFU) has been installed at the Department of Radiology, Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM). A calibration and quality assurance (QA) procedure has been performed to ensure the successful operations of the system hence the safety of the patients. This article presents the process and results of the calibration and QA procedure as well as technical aspects of the MR-HIFU system.
