Introduction Catalyst supports provide a platform from which heterogeneous catalysts such as nanoparticles can act to change the rate of a reaction without being consumed during the reaction. The support and catalyst may bond together in such a way to enhance the reactivity of the catalyst. In other cases, the support may be inactive and simply provide a high surface area substrate to increase the accessibility of the catalyst to the reactant.
