Introduction Ultra-deep desulfurization of fuel oils is an environmentally worldwide urgent subject. The oxidative desulfurization (ODS) is considered to be one of the promising new methods for ultra-deep desulfurization. In previous report, there were many types of oxidants and catalysts have been used. The emulsion catalysts assembled in the interface of emulsion drops (water in oil) could effectively improve the oxidation of sulfur-containing compounds present in fuel oil. In the present study, a POM-type catalyst with mono-lacunary Keggin-structures, [C18H37N(CH3)3]5Na2[PW11O39] (PW11), have been synthesized. It was found that the catalyst exhibit high catalytic activity toward the oxidation of sulfur-containing compounds under mild conditions.
