Experimental results obtained by microstimulation of parallel andclimbing fibers (PFs and CFs) are presented. Experiments were carriedout on an isolated frog cerebellum. The experiments show the changes inPF bundle stimulation efficiency in relation to a monosynaptic PC(Purkinje cell) response. CF stimulation not followed by PF stimulationleads to a reduction in PF-PC synapse efficiency in every experiment.But the combination of CF and PF simulations produces an initialreduction and subsequent increase in PF-PC synapse efficiency. Thus, theresults obtained suggest that PF-PC synapse efficiency could beincreased after joint activation of climbing and parallel fibers
