THE ALGORITHM 'DISAMBIGUIATE' FOR RESOLVING STRUCTURAL AMBIGUITY DISAMBIGUATION

摘要

This paper presents the parsing semantics based algorithmic approach for resolving the structural ambiguity in a sentence of the English language. An algorithm "Disambiguate" has been developed to infer about the meaning of a sentence during the parsing process only. This approach mainly depends on the association factor between the lexical components lying at a distant place in a sentence. The computation of associated factor requires an empirical approach for acquiring data. On the basis of this data, the probabilities of association between various kinds of objects and verbs have been estimated. Further, these estimated average probability of an object is compared with the probability of occurrence of each possible parse tree of a sentence containing that object to draw the suitable meaning.
