Ground Conditions and Geotechnical Parameters for the Perth Waterfront Development, Perth CBD

The $2.6B Perth Waterfront Project is being undertaken by the WA State Government in partnershiprnwith the private sector to reconnect the Swan River with the Perth Central Business District. Thernproject will involve the re-development of approximately 10 hectares of land on the Swan RiverrnForeshore and will feature a 2.7 hectare inlet surrounded by landscaped terraces, boardwalks andrnpromenades. Development sites surrounding the inlet will be sold to private developers for thernconstruction of office, retail and apartment buildings of up to 36 levels. Major earthworks arernscheduled to start in 2012. Geotechnical investigations for Phases 1 to 3 of the project werernundertaken between 2007 and 2011. This paper provides an introduction to the project, an outline ofrnthe geology underlying the project area and summarises the geotechnical design parameters adoptedrnfor the various geological units encountered.
