摘要

Xanthan Gum has been used extensively as aviscosifier in the oil industry for different applicationsdue to its unique rheological properties. Anexperimental study has been conducted to investigate theformation damage characteristics of Xanthan Gumbased fluids and the results are presented in this paper.A series of core flow experiments have beenconducted to investigate the possible relationship amongthe Xanthan Gum concentration, fluid extensional viscosity, shear viscosity, filtration loss characteristics,pressure drop across the core samples and hence, anychange in the original permeability of the porous media.Results of extensional and shear viscositymeasurements, API filtration loss tests, and formationdamage tests conducted by using fluids of differentxanthan gum concentrations are shown in this paper.
