With the rapid development of information technology, especially the application of computer technology in teaching, multimedia technology has become an important part of modernized teaching means. This article examines the necessity of the application of multimedia technology in mechanical engineering material teaching, analyses the advantages of multimedia teaching and the application methods in mechanical engineering material teaching, multimedia technology in classroom teaching, has "amplification","simulation" and "demo" role, but it can't replace fully the traditional teaching method.
