In - vitro tensile experiments on piglet skin samples were performed in this paper and the stress - strain curves obtained fromrnthese experiments were used in a finite element analysis of the advancement local skin flap.Comparisons of experimentalrnresults regarding samples obtained from symmetric places of the animal thoracic and abdominal area, were done.In thernnonlinear isotropic finite element model, the skin, the subcutaneous fatty tissue and the underlying muscle tissue werernincluded.The finite element results indicated that the maximum tensile stress develops at the flank of the flap, near the frontrncorner of it.The most severe compressive stress develops at the skin area outside the flap, close to the corner point of thernflap.
