The refining methods of lime mud from chemical recovery of black liquid of reed pulp have been studied. The simple and convenient technologies of refining lime mud for CaCO_3 used as papermaking fillers have been discussed . The brightness of CaCO_3 refined by washing processes is 84~86%(ISO). Water consumption is about 30-50 ton for one ton's lime mud in the processes. The brightness of CaCO_3 refined by drying processes is 88~89%(ISO).The lowest water consumption is about 3~6 tons for one ton's lime mud. The optimum carbonizing temperature is about 50℃. The brightness of CaCO_3 refined by additive processes is 91.5%(ISO). Total water consumption in the processes is about 5~10 tons or one ton's lime mud. The experiments show that the refined CaC.O_3. can be used as papermaking filler. It is considered by summery of the relevant dates: equipment, process, cost of production ,water consumption, the brightness of product, that the technology using additive is optimum to refine lime mud for papermaking filler.
