The design of the pump suction sump will influence the running efficiency and security performance. This article describes the measurement of the flow of a new pump suction sump by PIV technology, and the analysis of turbulent kinetic energy and circulation of the special panel in different flow condition. Based on the analysis, the structure of pump suction sump is improved. The flow of pump suction sump is measured again to check the efficiency of this improvement.
