T.Y. Lin International Bridge Experience in China

China is about the size of the United States. Three major rivers, the Huanghe in the north, the Yangtze in the middle and the Pearl in the south, all flow from west to the east. Moreover, most of China is mountainous. Building any highway and railway will require many major bridges over these rivers and gorges. rnThe modernization of China calls for seven major east-west highways and five north-south highways. Currently, China has about 1.95 million kilometers of highways and 41,000 kilometers of freeways. It is estimated that by 2010, these numbers will increase to 2.30 million and 65,000. And by 2020, China will have 3.00 million kilometers of highways and 85,000 kilometers of freeways. Undoubtedly, there will be many major bridges along these routes.
