Waveguides in polymers

Abstract: Samples of PMMA (Poly-(Methyl-Meth-Acrylate)) incombination with various substrates have been modifiedby ionizing radiation in order generate regions ofincreased refractive index. These waveguidingstructures were used to build passive devices such asY-branches, couplers and Mach-Zehnder-interferometers.The refractive index and beam profil and theattenuation at different wavelengths of the generatedwaveguides were measured.!8
