A method for selective radiometric ~(99)Tc sensing in groundwater is described. The sensing approach utilizesrna dual-function, composite sensor column designed to incorporate radionuclide-selective uptake andrnscintillating properties. Composite sensor column consists of a heterogeneous mixture of the selctivernsorbent and scintillating bead sub-materials. Analyte detection is carried out in the equilibration sensingrnregime and using chemically untreated groundwater. The sensing procedure was tested with therngroundwater from the Hanford site. Reliable ~(99)Tc detection at and below regulatory drinking water levelsrnwas demonstrated.
