MERIS VALIDATION IN THE NORTH WEST MEDITERRANEAN ANDMASCARENE RIDGE (INDIAN OCEAN)

A time series of measurements of phytoplankton pigments and MERIS chlorophyll (Level 2) data at arnsite in the north-west Mediterranean were obtained during the validation phase of the ENVISATrnmission (May to October 2002). In addition match-ups were obtained in the Mascarene Ridge area ofrnthe Indian Ocean from 1rnst June to 12th July 2002. This paper evaluates the quality of the satellite data byrnexamining the available Level 1 and Level 2 data, and compares the satellite and in situ chlorophyll. Asrnnot all the images have been received, the results in this paper represent an interim report only.
