Nitrate concentrations in groundwater have increased in many areas in the world. It causes serious concerns, because consumption of NO3-N contaminated water may cause health problems, but little attention has been paid into the study of nitrate migration and transformation in groundwater under variational hydraulic conditions. Biological denitrification of groundwater was studied in laboratory reactors. The experiments were carried out to study the nitrate removal using reed stalk at the volume ratio of 1:8 (reed stalk/total volume) and nitrate migration under different hydraulic conditions. The hydraulic loading was 106.56 L/d, 53.28 L/d and 26.64 L/d, separately.
