摘要

Water pollution derived from industrial processes has become a major environmental issue, which is threatening the water resources and causing the shortage of drinking water. To solve such problem, various techniques are currently proposed. Among these, the method based on ion-exchange membranes (IEMs) is regarded as one of the most effective, lowcost and environmental friendly technologies to remove environmental pollutant from the contaminated water. Although ion-exchange membrane technology used in wastewater treatment are confronted with many difficulties, there still exist many opportunities in the future. Especially, with the development of green and low-carbon economy throughout the developed and developing countries, the treatment of wastewater via IEMs has received much public attention, which will play an important role in wastewater disposal. Considering the difficulty and opportunity in wastewater treatment through ion-exchange membrane technique, this review is to give a brief description of the potential applications of IEMs in the recovery of industrial wastewater. I hope this review can accelerate the understanding and applications of IEMs in industrial waste disposal and make some contributions to the fields of environmental protection.
