In large-scale system developments,rnsystems engineers usually divide the integration processrninto stages in order to facilitate the integration. Oftenrnthis “divide-and-conquer” method, or what we callrn“multistage integration”, is the only way of renderingrnthe integration of a complex system feasible. This paperrnproposes to consider the employment of the multistagernintegration methodology for large as well as for smallrnsystems. The main point is that, regardless of size, andrneven when a single stage integration is feasible, it mayrnbe beneficial, both time-wise and cost-wise, to pursuernthe multistage integration methodology. Two modelsrnare developed in order to analyze single stage andrnmultistage integrations: a purely statistical model, and arnrobust design based model. Both models are shown tornbe viable and efficient as demonstrated by a simplernrepresentative example.
