The Case for Systems Management

At the INCOSE 2001 InternationalrnConference we were awarded the INCOSE PioneerrnAward for “tirelessly working to integrate projectrnmanagement and systems engineering.” In thernenvironment of project management and systemrnengineering, especially in aerospace, this concept isrnoften referred to as Systems Management and therernare a few Masters Degrees in Systems Managementrnavailable from U.S. Universities. However, SystemsrnManagement is often viewed as the integration ofrncomputer systems, which is not our intent.rnThis paper addresses the definition, need,rnheritage, evolvement, application, realization,rnbenefits, and visualization of Systems Management.rnThe concept is rooted in the seamless integration ofrnbusiness and technical management such that allrntechnical decisions are business and customer drivenrnto ensure the right system is being built, right.
