New Approach to Generic Attributes

Generic Attributes (GAs) are measures ofrnprocess performance introduced by the systemsrnengineering capability model, EIA/IS 731. The systemsrnmodel defines two GAs – Effectiveness and Value.rnWhile the concept of GAs is generally accepted asrnvalid, they have been used very little, due to difficultiesrnin interpretation and appraisal.rnRevised definitions and a new approach forrnappraising and using GAs have been developed for thernFederal Aviation Administration Integrated CapabilityrnMaturity Model~R v2.0 (FAA-iCMM~R). The improvedrnapproach to Generic Attributes provides the neededrnclarity and measurement objectivity. Definitions of therniCMM GAs and their relationship to process modelrnconcepts are described, along with a practical approachrnto appraising GAs.
