Partitioning national Defence intornportfolios, where key capabilities and activities arernappropriately aggregated together, has been suggestedrnas an effective way to manage national Defence. Thisrnpaper examines in detail the application of a heuristicrnapproach to achieve this, assessing the efficacy ofrnvarious ways of partitioning national Defence using thernestablished heuristics of systems architecting. Therninsights gained may then be applied to configure orrnrefine the structure and to establish linking of thernportfolios.
