The work on Knowledge-Based Decision SupportrnSystem Design for Water Quality Assessment inrnDistribution Networks is presented. This paperrnoutlines and summarises the essential activitiesrnsuch as, system definition, functions allocation,rnrequirements specification, the prototype systemsrndesign, decision-making processes, and thernknowledge database development. The integrationrnof these activities led to the successful applicationrnof systems engineering methodology. In addition,rnthe effects of operating parameters such as,rnchlorine residuals, coliforms, pH value, iron,rnmanganese, turbidity, and colour were assessed tornprovide a better understanding of the link amongrnthe chemical, physical, microbiological andrnaesthetic issues concerning drinking water supplyrnsecurity and safety.
