摘要

This work is a study of a one-quarter-scale test rig at The University of Nottingham simulating pneumatic conveying of coal from the mill to the furnace in a coal fired power station. Complex interactions of particles and wall have been reduced to simple wall functions in a CFD model of the rig in order to provide an indication of the behaviour of particles. The rig is used to test metering devices and to develop methods of controlling the particle distribution at junctions in the pipe-work. It is constructed mainly of nominal 6" internal diameter steel tube, with sections cut away for insertion of glass tube of the same diameter to enable visibility. The aim of the work is to provide information about the particle behaviour in the steel sections, which can be validated by laser sheet observations in the glass sections and by the bulk split of the particles at the junction. The simplified CFD model has predicted the bulk behaviour of the particles and shows good agreement with visualisation.
