APPLICATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF MARINE MEDIUM VOLTAGE POWER SYSTEM

With the continuously increasing of marine equipment power, the capacity of low voltage power station can't meet the requirement of total power in shipping. Thereby the increasing of voltage grade of marine electric power system, that is to adopt the medium voltage power system, has presently been an important problem faced with by some ship industries and is highly advantageous to the decreasing of weight, size and economic index of electrical equipments. The development trend of electric power system and the application prospect of medium voltage power system in modern ships are firstly analyzed in this paper. Then from the buildup of marine medium voltage power system, by comparing with low voltage power system now widely adopted in many ships, some especial requirements for the generators, protection of electric network, and the laying of cables in marine medium voltage power system are brought, and thereby provide a reference for the application and development of marine medium voltage power system.
