Chapter 22 An Overview of Contemporary and Individualised Approaches to Production Maintenance

A maintenance strategy can be described as a long-term plan that covers all attributes of maintenance management in addition to clear action plans and direction to attaining the desired maintenance function [1]. Maintenance is conducted in order to stop the deterioration of an asset and to hold the inherent value of the asset for the financial benefit of the enterprise. For manufacturing enterprises to increase their effectiveness in growing competitive markets, the importance of asset maintenance is continuously reinforced as the need for greater product quality and lower operational costs are becoming key economic areas of focus.
