Distributed Error Correction

We propose distributed error correction for digital libraries, where individual users can make corrections to information in a database. We use distributed error correction for the scientific literature digital library project at the NEC Research Institute: CiteSeer. We discuss issues including motivation to contribute corrections, trust, recovery, detecting malicious changes, and the use of correction information to predict the probability of errors or to improve automated algorithms. We also provide details of our implementation of distributed error correction with CiteSeer.
