Printed circuit boards (PCB) are widely used for wiring and carrying of electronic components sincernmore than hundred years. This electrical function is complemented today by a variety of thermal,rnoptical, mechanical or fluidic functions, also based on PCB technology. The University of Rostockrnis specialized in developing of fluidic systems in PCB, combined with electronic components andrncircuits. Miscellaneous passive and active components from low-flow micro systems to high-flowrnpneumatics are feasible, like a thermo-pneumatic driven pumps, bimetal valves, pressure sensors,rnbubble detectors and mixers. Beside of standard THT and SMT is the embedding of barernsemiconductor components in cavities inside of the PCB also possible. The combination of all theserndifferent components enables the design of more complex electronic-fluidic systems, versatilernapplicable. Main advantages of using systems in PCBs are the high flexibility and relatively lowrncosts also for small and medium lots. This paper gives an overview of the current component "kit"rnand shows the latest applications, such as a high flow insufflator device. This insufflator is a specialrnmedical device for the "keyhole" surgery, where a flow rate up to 45 l/min and a pressure up to 8 barrnis demanded. This is a very good example for the high flow fluidic PCB technology, where usualrnmulti layer PCBs are used to burrow the channels inside of the PCB and connect pneumaticrncomponents electrically and pneumatically on the same substrate.
