The paper describes micromechanisms of surface deformation and subsequent propagation into the bulk in wollastonite-filled polypropylenes. The potential of high resolution scanning electron microscopy is utilized to examine deformation processes, and develop deformation mechanism maps. The deformation maps provide a broad perspective of surface and bulk deformation processes that occur in different strain-deformation rate regimes. The results of the study have direct relevance in the assessment of resistance to mechanically-induced surface deformation.
