Binding Effect of Silane Coupling Agents on Filling of Magnetic Particles in Resin Composites

Noise suppression sheet contains magnetic filler and thermoplastic resin. High filling of the filler is known to raise the ability of noise suppression. In the study, silane treatment of the filler has been tried to improve the rate of the filling. Among various kinds of silane, cationic amino silane has given the highest filling. Moreover, an optimal amount of cationic amino silane has been found to raise the ability of magnetic property. Moreover, the effect of chemical binding of silanes to the powder on the filling is examined by the measurement of fraction of chemical binding in silane and of the filling ratio using pyrolysis-gas chromatography and densimetry, respectively. As a result, physisorbed silane is rather effective on the filling of magnetic fillers into polymer. This means that physisorbed silane has a role on the resin wettability in the processing of the mixture of magnetic powders and polymer.
