Many organizations nowadays own several informaito systems which reporsent a mine of possible informaiton resources whose effective exploitation is becoming a key issue in many applciation contexts.A major porblem to be faced within such contexts is the semantic normalizton fo scheme objects used in heterogeneeous, independent and pre-existing databases as to single out differences fand similitudes among datawhereby a consistent, integrated view of availabel informaiton cna be obtined. To solve large instances of this problem, the develpment of automatic support tools appears to be amndatory. This paper gives a ontribution in this framewrok by preenting algoirthms for extracting useful properties holding among objects belonging to sets of pre-existin gdatabase schemes. The algorihtms are capable of deriving both nominal and structurla porpeties of shceme objects starting form database scheme descriptions.
