Abstract: The eye-safe (500 nJ per pulse) portable lidar with a wavelength of 0.840 $mu@m has been designed. Operating as a photon counter, it allows to measure a distance to objects within a 5 km range with an accuracy of 5 m and backscatter coefficients with an accuracy of 2 * 10$+$MIN@7$/ (msr)$+$MIN@1$/. Results of some applications are presented.!2
