WHEN LCD STANDS FOR LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAYS AND LOW COST DEVICE

As is often the case in the simulation industry, necessity proved herself to be the mother of invention when British Airways was faced with the daunting task of training up to 1500 pilots to fly their newly purchased fleet of Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft over a two year period. Thales Training and Simulation (formerly Thomson) was selected by British Airways to meet this challenge by providing something more than just top fidelity Full Flight Simulators. The A320 Cockpit Systems Trainer (CST) was therefore conceived. This paper follows the design and development process of this exciting new cost effective flight crew training product from its initial conception right through into service and reviews the results achieved to date which have proved the CST to be a valuable new addition to the simulation industry's product portfolio.
