Functionality and usability of novel input devices on a wearable computer

摘要

This paper reports on an experiment which investigated the functionalty and usability of novel input devices on a wearable computer.Over a three-week period,four different input devices were used by twelve subjects to create and save short textual messages.The virtual keyboard,forearm keyboard,kordic keyboard and voice input devices were used with off-the-shelf technology to assess the efficiency and usability of this new technology.Results collected include the textual data created by the subjects,durations of activities,survey data and observations made by supervisors.The results indicate that the forearm keyboard is the best performer for caaurate and efficient text entry while other devices can be further improved from work on designing specialist GUIs for wearable computers.
