Options of ATM adaptation layer for MPEG video

摘要

The design and performance analysis of a forward error protectionnscheme which uses the two dimensional error coding technique for the ATMnadapttion layer (AAL) to support MPEG video services in ATM networks,nare carried out. Our study has shown that the design of the forwardnerror correction (FEC) code for the convergence sublayer (CS) in the AALnmust be carefully considered because of the possible adverse effectncaused by the additional traffic carrying the redundancy of the FECncode. It has been found in our study that, as long as the cell lossnratio is not higher than 10^-4, the adverse effect (measurednin terms of increased errored picture ratio) will be more than offset bynthe improvement made possible by the FEC code
