Two common estimation problems that frequently arise in the study of spatially varying phenomena are of (1) the value of a variable, and (2) the probability of exceeding a cutoff value, at an unsampled location. The need arises in groundwater studies since this data is typically sparsely sampled due to the expense of drilling.
